Mount Vesuvius and Volcanus
An imposing figure in the dark sky above Vospire, Mount Vesuvius looms on the horizon as a fiery volcano billowing smoke and radiating evil - it is home to the spirit Vyst, Commander Ssryth, various tortured beings, from thieves to firedrakes, and the city of Volcanus. This mountain is not for the faint of heart - prone to earthquakes and filled with aggressive mobs, various branching pathways in it lead to altars, gnomes, wall paintings, and death traps.
Gaining entry to the secret city Volcanus requires venturing deep into the mountain itself and seeking out the Mad Gnome, who provides transportation to the city limits on his Mad Mole for 10,000 gold. There are a few establishments outside of the city of Volcanus, most noticeably the gnomish mining group, several priests of Vyst, Syrazic the knowledgeable demon, and automatons.
Wiggles Tenderfoot, the infamous thief, has taken refuge with the brothers Mirentos and Lirentos, who mine on the east side of town (out of sight). Wiggles has stolen an item which can get you in to the city proper, should you be willing to defeat him and pass through the chaotic bowels of the volcano.
Volcanus itself is home to many typical city practices, hosting a well stocked general store, typical armory, houses, and an inn. However, the Temple of Vyst threatens to the north, housing elemental paladins and priestesses of Vyst chanting in CPK, luckily under lock and key by Wyglif the Wise. Experienced players may choose to challenge Vyst, which requires much further exploration and risk for appropriate rewards.
- Wiggles the thief is said to have once stashed his goods in a cave accessible only through a warpstone, but was ousted by a well-armed ranger skeleton.
- Lirentos and Mirentos hide Wiggles in NPK, although they themselves are off the beaten path.
- Adventurers seeking a cracked mortar and pestle should be aware that Syrazic is seeking the heart of an automaton.
- The Mark of Sagacity is attainable in this area (the Ancient Wand miniquest).
- One surefire way of defeating a basilisk is reflecting its gaze back onto itself.
- Alazar the shopkeeper is looking for some new furniture.
- Wyglif the wise performs wonders with objects given to him.
- Fourth class gear found in Vesuvius includes: Gloves of alchemy, Syrazic's tail coil, cracked mortar and pestle, yo-yo of darkness, flail of fire, shield of shadows, banded axe, etc.
- The Mad Gnome charges 10k gold per form, and the Angel of Purity is known to deposit you outside the evil reaches of Vyst.
- The boss NPC Vyst resides in Vesuvius.
- Zizziks the shadow is so devoted to Vyst he is said to reside within an altar near the bottom of Vesuvius, wielding the yo-yo of Shadow.
- Pythax the dragon has allied himself with Vyst (the Mark of Astronomy requires venturing to Phythax).
- Syrazic the learned demon has discovered a key important to Vyst.
- Septha, the angel of purity, resides in a garden accessible only by Mordimus, who is said to have been craving a specific fruit grown by the priests outside the city limits.
- Wyglif is the only person with access to the Temple of Vyst.
- The Temple of Vyst is filled with aggressive elemental paladins and several priestesses, who wander in chaos.
- The elemental golem is well trained in holy arts.
- Leaving Volcanus is as easy as speaking to the right person.
