"Behold, it shall come to pass that in a certain moment, that which must be and that
which must not be shall meet, and in that meeting shall be decided all that has gone before and all that will come
after. Then will the Child of Light and the Child of Dark face each other in the broken tomb, and the stars will shudder
and grow dim."
-the Mrin Codex
Belgarath often said that Thull mardu was full of sunsets that day. So many invading Angarak ships crossing the Great
Eastern Sea had been set aflame by the Cherek fleet that they burned to the water line in a row like a flock of fiery
geese. Some leapt overboard and tried to swim to shore only to be cut down by cavalry when they arrived. Others clung to
the hulking inferno and were inevitably consumed by the flame. The rest dropped into the icy deep, snowflakes off
death's shoulders as he shrugged over the waters.
But all this mattered not. For the fate of men, Gods and the universe depended upon the outcome of the final meeting
between the Child of Light and the Child of Dark, as was prophesized in the Mrin Codex. I, Belgarion, the Child of
Light, King of Riva and Overlord of the West had finally arrived at Cthol Mishrak, city of endless night to face my
archenemy, Kal Torak, the Child of Dark, both King and God of all Angarak. |
