The Premise:

What if an entire town went mad, all at once? Every
member of a small, close community turning darker,
more severe until they saw danger in every shadow and
a knife in every hand? We shall discover that today.

Madness has come to the OT Forum. Everyone sees every hand
raised against him, and so raises his own hand in
return. Poster turns on poster and blood flows freely
in the streets. Let us watch as this unfolds.

Here, my friends, is the beginning of the 1st ever Materia Magica Message Board Assassins game. In this thread, I shall impart upon you the rules and requirements for you to participate in this game. Please read the below rules carefully, and post in the Discussion thread if you have any questions.

To participate, you will be required to enroll. I will set up an enrollment thread in this forum. Please read, and make sure you understand the rules before you sign up.

As the game setup is completed, I will post here, in this thread, letting everyone know. Again, use the Discussion thread for any questions regarding the rules. No targets will be assigned till the setup is complete.

Live by the rules, or die by the rules:

1) You can only kill your target or your assassin if
he makes himself known to you. Don't try to kill
anyone who isn't your target or isn't trying to kill
you. This would result in a great deal more work for
the coordinators and methods for dealing with _that_
much chaos haven't been discussed yet.

2) A kill is made by quoting your target and appending
the phrase "In the end there can be only one!" in your
post. On making a kill attempt post a link to the
thread in the Death Announcement thread. Once a
coordinator has confirmed your kill you will be given
your new target. Kill attempts will fail if there is a
post between your target's quoted post and your kill
post, if the quoted portion is edited, if the kill
post has an edit tag, if there are any spelling or
punctuation errors, or if there is anything besides
the kill phrase in your post. (Take note of this if
you are used to typing in your signature)

3) If you include the phrase "poison dagger" in a post
and your assassin subsequently attempts to kill you
but fails to edit the "poison dagger" out of your post
then your assassin will die instead of you. This is
the only case in which editing your target's post is
permissible. If your target is killed by a poison
dagger you will be given a new target.

4) If you include the phrase "booby trap" in the first
post of a thread you created and your target
subsequently posts in that thread then your target is
dead. A booby trap can only claim one victim so if you
want to set a trap for your next target you will have
to create a new thread.

5) The "poison dagger" and "booby trap" tags must be
in correct English, must appear in the body of the
post (not your signature or location for instance) and
must be consecutive (no putting "poison" at the
beginning of the post and "dagger" at the end). Beyond
this creative deception is encouraged.

6) If you do not maintain a posting rate of at least
one post a day you will die from withdrawal symptoms.

7) Only posts made during the game are eligible
targets. No necromancy of old posts (thats old posts, not old threads!).

This thread (The rules), the Discussion thread, the Enrollment thread and the Death Announcement thread are holy ground. Kill attempts in these threads automatically fail. Keep this in mind, because, if you attempt to kill your target here...he will live, and will know who you are. Turnabout is hell.

9) No using the search feature. Get out there and
post.

10) Only posts in the OFF TOPIC forum are to be used
for this game.

11) There can be only one. The winner is the last man
standing.

As mentioned, I will create a Discussion thread. PLEASE, for the love of god, keep your idle chatter and discussion to that thread. Do not post discussion in the rules thread, or, more importantly, in the Death Announcement thread.

Trolling will not be tolerated, and will be deleted as soon as possible. Also, any participant found to be a troll will immediately be disqualified from the game, and will become the target of much ridicule and public scorn.
