Getting Started: Adventurer's Guide: Towne of Lasler
Agrippa Coat of Arms

IX. Towne of Lasler

Once you have created your character, you will be in the first classroom in the Towne of Lasler and you can follow the direction trail for additional lessons and the chance to train your skills and learn to communicate with others. Don't forget to read each room's descriptions, as they offer many helpful hints. Once you enter the training room, you can either train your attributes, train your statistics (Hit Points, Spell Points and Stamina), or practice your skills.

Deciding What Skills and Attributes to Train

First select a weapon skill to focus on, and note that the weapon you were given when your character was created may be a good choice. Practice this weapon to somewhere between 50% and 75%. You will have enough practices left over to train up some of your attributes. Bards may also want to use some practices to increase their music skill percents; mages and clerics may want to use some practices to boost a key spell.

Depending on what class you chose, it's important to train the right attributes. If you are a fighter or thief, try training WISDOM (which will give you more additional practices per level) and then VITALITY (which will give you more hit points every time you level). If you chose to be a mage or cleric, try to train WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE (which will give you more spell points every time you level).

The remaining attributes are:

AGILITY: Affects how often warrior combat works successfully, as in how often a target successfully is struck, and how often a defense (when one has a defense) causes a foe to miss.

SANITY: Affects how often spells work successfully.

STRENGTH: Affects how much you can carry and how much damage your weapons cause.

LUCK: Affects everything that happens to you and by you to some degree.

COURAGE and PERSONALITY: Novice players do not need to be concerned about boosting these attributes until later in their character's development.

Finally, statistics (Hit Points, Spell Points, and Stamina) can be trained, but it is generally better to do this later and save your practices for key skills or attributes.

Equipment

When your character is created, it has a set of basic equipment that will get you started. But you should also take the time to investigate shops for helpful gear that can boost attributes or stats as well as finding weapons that hit harder and armor that protects better. Some helpful equipment can also be earned by performing special tasks.

Leveling

And now you are ready to go out and earn levels. Your goal in Lasler is to get to level 10, after that you will be transported to another city depending on the class you have chosen. Again, follow the directions to go to the hunting areas. Before you decide to kill a creature, be sure to CONSIDER name of creature that will give you an idea how hard or easy it is compared to your character's power and level.

Each time you level, you will be given additional hit points, spell points, fatigue points and special points used to further train your attributes, train your stats or practice your skills. In order to do that, you can RECALL and then go west, north, west, open north, north. In this location are 2 trainers that will help you practice your weapons and defenses.

If you walk around the village, you will find all kinds of stores that sell weapons, armors, food etc. The shopkeepers will welcome you and tell you how you can view what is being sold, how you can buy and sell and how to get information about each item being sold. As you travel, you will also notice pools of water on the ground. If you feel hungry or thirsty, remember to drink twice from the pools.

Other Things to Do In Lasler

In Lasler, there are a lot more things to do than just hunt and KILL creatures. Other than learning the basics of the game and exploring new areas, you can try the 2 miniquests that will give you extra rewards.

Lasler Miniquests: Currently, you can find 2 miniquests in Lasler, the Youth trial and the Wisdom trial. When completed, each gives you practices and a mark that may be useful to you in later adventures.

Youth Trial: After you reach level 6, you may try the trial of youth. The difficulty of the miniquest is proportional to the rewards. Before you start, make sure you have a few healing potions (found at the potion store, which is located all west on the main road of the village) and light sources (which can be found at the general store).

The first goal in this trial is to obtain three leaves from the dryads outside the forest and the dragon. To obtain the three leaves, you will need to defeat certain creatures or be sneaky and outwit certain others. To get more information on the miniquest, try talking to the dryad in the forest.

Once you have all three leaves the dryads in the forest will guide you to the place where you can attempt the last phase of the trial. Here you will kill the main creature that will allow you to earn the rewards. Be sure to read all information in this area as it may affect the choices you are making, especially which creature you wish to face.

Wisdom trial: There are two ways to activate this quest. One way is to visit brother Rufus (type RECALL to be transported to his room) and say "ghost", then move west and wait until you are transported to the quest area. The second way is to find the druid in the forest, and with the help of the creatures of the forest, he'll be happy to tell you the story of the quest along with hints about it.

Once transported to the quest area, if you go north you will notice five magical obelisks. Your task is to have them placed in the right order so a north exit will reveal itself to you. The magical obelisks are "toggled" each time you walk in the room and shine each time one is placed in the desired order. The one in the center has runes that glow to show you how many of the obelisks are correctly placed.

Your task it to get all four of the runes in the center obelisk to glow at the same time within the allowed time. Once all four runes in the center obelisk are glowing, you can go north and gather your rewards.

Getting Help

If at any time you feel lost, or do not understand how to perform an action, do not get discouraged or panic. There are several ways you can get answers to your questions and help. First you can try HELP, which will give you a guide on all the topics and ways of the game.

If that does not help, you can type GUIDE, and TELL the people who are listed there, they will be happy to help you with your questions. You can also ask other players around you, or finally PRAY followed by your questions and the Guides will assist you as soon as possible.

You can also type RECALL and be returned to the Lasler recall room at any time if you lose your way and become lost. Going outside of Lasler is not a good idea until you are transported out at level 10. At that point you will be ready to continue your adventures, perhaps within Rune Forest, which lies due north of the village of Lasler.
