VII. General Informational Commands
Materia Magica has an extensive help database and many questions may be answered by typing HELP <topic>. Help train will give the max statistics for each race, HELP <race name> and HELP <class> will give an overview of each race and class.
You can announce your HP/SP/ST (hit points/spell points/stamina) and alignment to the room by typing report.
The who command has several uses, beginning with the basic, unqualified who list. Typing WHO without an argument will give a list of all characters in the game in order of connection. WHO <race> will show you all the characters of a particular race that are online. Likewise, WHO <class> will provide a list of characters of a specific class. As well, WHO <player name> will give you the information on that player if they are online. Finally, you can determine what characters of a specific range of levels are online by typing WHO <lower level> <upper level>. For instance, should a level 12 be looking for a good fighting partner, typing "WHO 10 15" would show the characters from levels 10 through 15 who are online at that time. You can combine these arguments to receive a more specialized list. e.g. WHO ELF CAVALIER 15 25 will provide a list of all players online of whom are Elven Cavaliers between the levels 15 and 25.
Title sets the phrase, which immediately follows your name when people look in the room you are in. You can check your title by looking at your score. (see HELP TITLE)
You can check your liquid capital by using the gold command or simply by typing $. (see HELP GOLD)
Description allows you to describe your character so that the world can see your image of him/her. This description is an important part of defining your character's role in Materia Magica and should be chosen with care. (see HELP DESCRIPTION). Descriptions are seen when a person LOOKs at you.
Socials are pre-written EMOTEs (see HELP EMOTE) which are seen differently by you, your target and third parties watching. For example, if Ed uses the bonk social on Joe the syntax would be BONK Joe.
Ed would see:
You bonk Joe on the head for being such a moron.
Joe would see:
Ed bonks you on the head for being so foolish.
Anyone in the room besides Ed and Joe would see:
Ed bonks Joe on the head for being such an UTTER moron.
You can get a list of these by typing SOCIALS within the game.
You can see spells and certain proficiencies, which affect your character by typing AFFECT. AFFECT will also show the duration of such spells and proficiencies. (see HELP AFFECTS).
Notify is a feature that allows you to track the comings and goings of a
number of characters. Typing NOTIFY <character> will add or delete a
person to from your notify list. Typing NOTIFY without an argument will
show your list, who's online (that you can see), how long they've been
online and how long they have been idle. (see HELP NOTIFY).
Alias allows you to assign a command to another string (see HELP ALIAS). The syntax is ALIAS <string> <command>. Color codes cannot be used in the string, but can be used in the command.
The LOOK command allows you to get more detailed information on an item or person. Looking at a person will show you their description, their equipment, and possibly what is in their inventory (if you are learned in the 'peek' skill). Looking at an item will give you the description of that item, and more detailed information about it if you are learned in the 'lore' skill. Using look without an argument will show you what is in that room (see HELP LOOK).
