I typed news, but I cannot scroll back far enough to read it again. How
can I get the news back up?
Type 'news' then the number you wish to read. If you're not sure which one
it is, use the process of elimination to see.
What does it take to gain skill in a proficiency after you've practiced it
to 75%?
Normal use of a skill/spell will result in increased proficiency.
What level do you have to be to begin questing?
You must be at least level 10 to begin questing in the conventional way, that is, using the 'QUEST' command. There are, however, mini-quests and errands you can complete in Lasler if you find the right NPCs.
I just tried to cast a spell, and when I fumbled it I died! What happened?
That is what is called a spell surge death. Often casting spells that are
not fully practiced they will surge and different things will happen. Items
may appear out of thin air, you may receive a little bit of healing, or you
may die.
How do I get a quest? and How do I complete a quest?
Find the quest master of the area. Asking someone in the area for help
to locate one, or ask a Guide. To gain a quest, type "quest request"
when you have found the questmaster. After your quest is finished, go
back to the questmaster you got the quest from and type "quest complete". For more information, of course, you should read 'HELP QUEST' from within the game.
What are these asterisks next to someone?
A bright red asterisk means that person is affected by the "fireshield" spell.
A bright cyan asterisk means that person is affected by the "pass door" spell.
A bright white asterisk means that person is affected by the "sanctuary" spell.
A bright green asterisk means that person is affected by the "invisibility" spell (you'll only see them if you can detect invisibility).
How do I get the news tag on my prompt to go away?
Type "NEWS" in all capital letters.
What is a global quest? And what am I supposed to do?
A couple times a year (usually during holidays like Halloween and Christmas), the immortals of the game decide to celebrate the special occasion by making a special quest which lasts for around a day and throughout Alyria. Usually, special NPCs will appear throughout most areas of the game holding special equipment. The point of the quest is to recover the equipment, and return them to special, specific NPCs found in specific towns. In exchange for the equipment, you may receive gold, experience, practices, or quest points.
Where do I get opalescent equipment?
This is global quest equipment. About one day a year, this equipment
shows up as part of the global quest, to be turned in for rewards. Once
the global quest is over, the opalescent equipment disappears for
another year.
What is botting?
Botting is defined as running scripts or using triggers to perform ANY
action while you are not in control of the character (If you are away from
the keyboard, not paying attention etc.). It is against the rules in Materia Magica.

What is multiplaying?/Can I play two characters at once?
Multiplaying is defined as one person controlling two or more characters at
one time. You can have one character in the social area of the game and one
in the games realm, but you are not allowed to have more than one character
in the realm. If you are networked, you will need to contact the Game Administrators with network details.

What is handfasting/marriage, how do I do it?
Handfasting and Marriage are two services that we provide for players in the
realm, it allows you to share a house with someone that you care about
online. Type 'HELP MARRIAGE' in the game for more information.
How do I buy a house?
Players over level 60 are allowed to buy houses in some of the major cities
in the realm. You can pay for a house through in game gold or you can contribute
to support the game. Type 'HELP HOMES' from within the game for more information.
