  magical wand

DESCRIPTION
  This proficiency allows the use of specially-enchanted "combat
  wands", which are rods of about arm-to-elbow length (on the average
  human) that can be made of virtually any material, so long as it has
  the ability to hold a magical charge. When used during combat, these
  wands emit a short, focused beam of damaging energy towards the
  target.

  These wands are designed to draw energy from the world around them
  and maintain a constant charge of power, so their power supply is
  limited only by the age of the materials of which the wand is created.
  The constant energy flow through the wand will put a stress on the
  material so magical wands tend to wear down faster than other weapon
  types.
