DESCRIPTION
Through your travels in Alyria you will come across many
merchants seeking to sell you goods and services, or buy
goods from you.
You can buy many different types of goods and services
from shopkeepers, such as weapons, magical spells, horses,
pets, etc.
Shops usually only have a limited amount of inventory
on hand. Once that inventory is depleted, you must wait
until the shopkeeper replenishes his or her supply.
Depending on the item, this can take days, weeks, or
months. Usually the more exotic the item, the less the
shopkeeper will have in stock, and the longer it takes
him or her to acquire more.
Most of the shopkeepers in Alyria take gold in exchange for
their wares, but some specialized shops only accept other
currency. The Van Pelt family and their agents sell special
items in exchange for Reward Units, quest masters require
quest points to buy their goods, and some shops sell items
for use by clans in clanhalls, and require maleficarum roots.
Players can also run their own shops by making use of the
VENDOR command within the Alyrian Bazaar. See 'HELP VENDOR'
for more information.
SHOP LIST
Displays a list of items available for purchase, their
prices, and item numbers. Some shopkeepers may not have
anything available for purchase - for instance, a
merchant who only buys items and then sells them to
specific people or a group.
Be sure to check the SHOP LIST before referencing an
item by number, as these numbers can change based on
the shopkeeper's inventory.
You can restrict the SHOP LIST to just display the
items in a level range from <minimum level> to
<maximum level>.
SHOP BUY [<amount>] <item name or number>
Allows you to buy an item from a shopkeeper. You may
reference the item either by the item number displayed
using 'SHOP LIST' or by the item name. If there are
several items with the same name it is usually best to
use the item number, or you can specify the exact
item name by surrounding it with single quotes like
so: SHOP BUY 'item name'.
To buy multiple quantities of an item at a time, you
may specify an amount. You may buy anywhere from 1
to 500 quantities of an item at a time, assuming there
are that many available in the shopkeeper's inventory.
SHOP BUY will check both your gold on hand and in your
default bank account when making a purchase.
SHOP SELL <item name>
Allows you to sell an item in your inventory to a
shopkeeper. Some shopkeepers may only buy specific
items, or they may have more than enough items in
their inventory and don't want to buy any more. You
can see how much a shopkeeper will pay for an item
by using the SHOP VALUE command.
SHOP VALUE <item name>
Allows the shopkeeper to give an appraisal on an item -
how much that shopkeeper would pay for the item.
SHOP QUOTE <resource name or item number> <quantity>
This command is similar to SHOP VALUE but is specifically
designed for resource traders. Unlike most shops, traders
sell and purchase varying quantities of resources for a
price that is based on supply and demand. The prices
appearing on a trader's shop list are valid for a quantity
of only one item. SHOP QUOTE can be used to obtain an
accurate quote for both the price the trader is willing to
pay for the specified quantity of the specified resource
as well as the price for which the trader is willing to sell
that quantity of the specified resource.
SHOP IDENTIFY <item name or number>
Identifies an item in the shopkeeper's inventory,
allowing one to see the full attributes of an item
before purchase.
SHOP ESTIMATE <item name>
Certain shopkeepers can repair damaged items, such
as cracked shields, dull swords, or broken artifacts.
The shopkeeper will estimate how much the item will
cost him to repair and inform you.
SHOP REPAIR <item name>
Certain shopkeepers can repair damaged items, such
as cracked shields, dull swords, or broken artifacts.
The shopkeeper will charge for the repair service
based on the estimated value of the item.
SHOP RESTRING <item name> [<field name> or 'reset'] <description>
Some special shopkeepers have the power to alter the
very nature of an item and make it look and appear
different to the layperson. Restringing requires the use
of Strange Coins, available in Reward Unit Shoppes.
Fields that may be restrung are:
keywords - words used to reference the item (5 - 120 letters),
no color codes allowed
short - description of the item as it appears in your
inventory (5 - 60 letters), up to 10 color codes
long - description of the item when it is on the ground
(5 - 120 letters), up to 10 color codes
specialname - for specific items, namely toy soldiers,
toy wizards, and toy shamans. Gives the item
a name that shows up when the toy transforms.
For more information on this, see HELP RESTRINGING.
SHOP ENGRAVE <item name> <engraving text or 'reset'>
Engraving works much like restringing, except that the
engraving is added to the item's description and displayed
whenever anyone LOOKs at it. Engravings will appear
similar to:
"An engraving on <object name> reads: <engraving>"
Engravings follow much of the same rules as restringings,
except they can be added to items that are set as
"nochange" (which means they cannot be restrung).
Engravings are limited to 5 color codes and 50
characters maximum.
Strange coins are needed to engrave items, and are
available through Reward Unit shoppes. Engravings must be
game-related in nature and cannot contain words or
phrases that are anachronistic or violate the normal
global channel rules. If an item is found to violate
the aforementioned rules it will be removed permanently,
so please be careful.
If you have an engraved item and wish to remove the
engraving, you may use the SHOP ENGRAVE <item name> 'reset'
version of the SHOP ENGRAVE command. This will cost one
strange coin.
SHOP RESTORE <item name>
While the number of shopkeepers that provide this service
is rare, it is quite useful. When a special item is obtained
(see 'HELP REWARDUNIT') you may give this item to a specially-
trained shopkeeper, who can then use it to restore an item to
its previous glory. This will replenish the number of times
an item can be repaired, as well as restoring all spells and
affects, if the items is magical. Useful for restoring rare
and powerful items.
SHOP RENEW <item name>
If a shopkeeper can RESTORE an item, he can also RENEW an item.
This will lengthen the duration of specific powerful items
(see 'HELP REWARDUNIT') that have limited lifespans by extending
the expiration date by the default lifespan if the item has not yet
expired or otherwise by adding the default lifespan to the date of
renewal if the item has expired already.
There are two types of renewal tokens - a Token of Renewal, which
restores the item as described above, and the Token of Minor
Renewal, which will add up to 30 real life days to an item's
lifespan. The amount of renewal depends on the default lifespan
for the item - for example, an item with a 6-month lifespan
would have its lifespan extended by 15 days, whereas an item
with a 1-year lifespan would have its lifespan extended by 30
days (the maximum).
