Rorthron's Darkland Equipment Guide
Far off in the wilds of Alyria, separated from civilisation
by a great desert, lies the crumbling town of Lowangen. It
is here, in the depths of the keep, carried by ghouls and
foul things in the midst of a player-killing zone, that the
mystical Darkland equipment can be found.
Forged from platinum, covered with arcane symbols and
indecipherable script of an unknown origin, the armor is
shrouded in mystery.
The Darkland armor set fills a gap between 1st class
equipment and the more powerful later 2nd class equipment
available, with reasonable AR, good availability, and
durability. All pieces are level 80, wearable at level 75, so
in most cases this armor will be the first upgrade to
noticeably stronger 2nd class armor.
For those looking for RP, the Darkland set is robust, and
more importantly, fairly easy to obtain (even given its
location in NPK, the Lowangen area is not frequented by more
than a handful of questers most of the time). If you don’t
want to run the PK gauntlet, the equipment can usually found
in most armor shops across the world, and wont break the bank
to buy it.
The downsides to the Darkland ensemble are its overall
weight, being slightly heavier than similar level equipment
available, and the lack of positive affects on a lot of the
pieces in comparison with the common alternatives.
Even given these minor negatives, the Darkland set still
offers itself up as good early class armor, and for the RP
purists looking for a complete suit, it is the only set that
offers total body coverage in one matching set at this level.
A Darkland Helmet (Head)
You see a sturdy platinum helmet that is decorated with
gemstones at the base. Occasionally, it appears to glow with a
yellow light and you notice that it is quite small but just
sufficiently sized to be worn by most people. You cannot quite
decipher the meaning of the weird writings engraved on it.

as easily available as this.
Alternatives: The Overlord’s Helm (Level 80, Irda Isle) and
Iron Pot Helm (Level 70, Templeton)
A set of Darkland plates (Torso)
A set of strong armor lays before you. Made of platinum, it
radiates enough energy to light up a dark room. A warm
sensation reaches into your veins as you pick it up, examining
the strange carvings on it which look just like a bunch of
irregularly shaped ovals linked together. Perhaps they are
inscriptions of some kind written by an unknown race of
beings.

Armor resistance is 12 pierce, 10 bash, 8 slash, and 7 exotic.
Commentary: Outclassed by torso armor around this level
simply because of its lack of affects, the Darkland Plates
still offer good protection to the wearer and are still worth
considering in the absence of the more difficult to obtain
alternatives.
Alternatives: A Midnight Breastplate (Level 70, Shadow
Castle), A Suit of Frosted Platemail (Level 80, Dungeon
Avarice) and A White Marble Breastplate (Level 82, Rune Temple
Crypts),
A pair of Darkland sleeves (Arms)
A glowing pair of darkland sleeves lay before you. The
sleeves are crafted from platinum and engraved in a spiral
fashion up its length are some strange markings. Most of them
are irregular curves, some long some short, but each
resembling a small snake crawling its way along the ground.
There is a latch that when activated allows the sleeves to
expand or contract according the wearer's size.

Cove), A Pair of Silver Pauldrons (Level 72, Sigil), Frosted
Armplates (Level 85, Dungeon Avarice) and The Rainbow Colored
Wings Of A Couatl (Level 70, Rune Graveyard)
A pair of Darkland gauntlets (Hands)
Even though it is made of platinum, the gauntlets look
quite malleable and can be stretched. As you try to put it on,
it closes around your hands like a protective vise and instead
of feeling the coldness of hard metal, a cozy heat engulfs
your fingers all the way to the palms. You notice some strange
markings but cannot quite understand what they mean.

Shadow Castle)
A pair of Darkland leggings (Legs)
The pair of leggings shine like the afternoon sun and
almost blinds you. The weird markings on the platinum surface
glow with a bluish light as you hold it in your hands,
pulsating with an unearthly energy. A comforting warmth seems
to pass from the sleeves to you. It is actually made up of
several detachable pieces which fit together to form a whole
piece of armor. Each part is joined together by seamless
connections using nuts and bolts.

Castle), Frosted Legplates (Level 80, Templeton) and Frozen Legplates (Level 85, Dungeon Avarice)
A Pair of Darkland boots (Feet)
The pair of boots pulsate with a faint blue glow as if
beckoning for you to pick it up. The soles are reinforced with
rubber and the interior is padded with cotton so as to lessen
the strain on the adventurer who wishes to travel long
distances in them. Small intersecting circles are engraved on
the surface and you wonder what they mean.
Item 'a pair of darkland boots' is type armor, alignment 0
made of platinum.
This item weighs 0 stones and 35 pebbles, and is valued at
8,500 gp.
This level 80 item has the attributes: none
Affects agility by 1 by -1 for minutes.
Armor resistance is 4 pierce, 3 bash, 3 slash, and 2 exotic.

the Focault Boots, these are a good addition to your armor.
Alternatives:A Pair of Frogskin boots (Level 80, Rune) and The
Boots of the Wizard Focault (Level 85, Focault in Rune)
A Darkland belt (Waist)
A beautiful metal belt lays before you and appears to
shimmer magically. Rays of yellow light shoots forth from it
as you place your hands on the cool platinum metal. Carved
into the belt are numerous squiggly curves which look like
writings in an unknown language. This is definitely made by
creatures from another world.
Item 'a darkland belt' is type armor, alignment 0 made of
platinum.
This item weighs 0 stones and 25 pebbles, and is valued at
11,500 gp.
This level 80 item has the attributes: none
Can be used to cast the spell(s): detect invisibility
Affects courage by 2 by -1 for minutes.
Armor resistance is 0 pierce, 0 bash, 0 slash, and 0 exotic.
Commentary: Without doubt the most useful item of the
Darkland set, because of the affects it gives you. With the
lack of other good belts around this level, using this to cast
detect invisibility can free up other useful slots like wrist,
finger or neck for other important items.
Alternatives: A Belt of Onyx (Level 80, Shadow Castle) and A
Time-Ravaged Belt (Level 85, Magencia)
A Darkland bracer (Wrist)
A gleaming bracer of remarkable craftsmanship lies before
you. Strange inscriptions goes around the platinum surface,
each of them like overlapping triangles, unlike any runes or
phrases you have ever seen before. A hidden latch that when

worn by anyone. Holding it in your hands, an inexplicable warm
feeling spreads through your body.

8,500 gp.
This level 80 item has the attributes: none
Armor resistance is 0 pierce, 0 bash, 0 slash, and 0 exotic.
Commentary: Probably the least useful item in the set,
with no status affects, and taking up a wrist slot, nobody
would blame you for dropping this piece in favour of the
multitude of better wrist items out there.
Alternatives: A Bone Bracer (Level 80, Rune) and A Pair of
Cufflinks (Level 75, Seelie Castle)
A Darkland shield (Shield)
In the middle of the platinum shield is an engraved picture
of a sunburst. A worn leather strap is affixed to the back of
it and you see a lucky charm tied around the strap. Around the
circumference of the shield are strange symbols, some
triangles while others ovals, but none of them making any
sense to you at all.
Item 'a darkland shield' is type armor, alignment 0 made of
platinum.

8,500 gp.
This level 80 item has the attributes: none
Affects luck by 1 by -1 for minutes.
Armor resistance is 2 pierce, 1 bash, 1 slash, and 1 exotic.
Commentary: A good, heavy shield ideal for bashing, and
one of the few pieces with a useful positive affect on it. The
AR is lower than the Manari Crest, but the +luck makes it
worth using.
Alternatives: A Manari Crest (Level 84, Rune Graveyard) and
A Steel Shield (Level 80, Diocletian)
