PRACTICE
NAME
practice - increase knowledge about a proficiency or a spell
SYNOPSIS
practice <spell or skill name> [<# of times>]
EXAMPLES
practice 'fire breath'
-- practices the proficiency 'fire breath'
practice spark 15
-- practices the spell 'spark' fifteen times
practice 'cure blindness'
-- practices the spell 'cure blindness'
DESCRIPTION
The PRACTICE command allows you to train a skill (proficiency
or spell) and increase your knowledge of it. It is different
from the TRAIN command in that you are not learning about an
attribute or a vital statistic, but about something more
specific.
You may only PRACTICE at a designated trainer (sometimes called
Guildmasters). These trainers can be found in most major cities
and in some remote locations.
You cannot train all available skills at the same trainer. As
in real life, each trainer has a skill set he or she is most
familiar with and offers that knowledge to Adventurers. Also,
trainers may only offer limited practice sessions in a
particular skill (for instance, the trainer may only offer
10 practice sessions of the spell 'kill' each day - first
come, first served).
The number of practice sessions a spell or proficiency will
take in order to raise it one percentage point is largely based
on your level. As you progress through levels and change classes,
it will take more and more practices to raise a skill one
percentage point, as it is harder to learn new skills as you
get older.
To train a spell, you must be holding the appropriate spellbook
with the spell inscribed therein.
To use more than 1 practice point at a time, use the PRACTICE
<skill name> <#> command.
Example: practice 'fireball' 15 - will practice the 'fireball'
skill using 15 practice points.
WAYS TO ACQUIRE PRACTICE SESSIONS
1. Use of the automated Quest system, usually available at Lords
and Ladies of the Townes.
2. Discover and receive Marks, which are a way of noting
experiences within the land.
3. Miniquests, which can be found in almost all zones, often
provide practice sessions as a means of reward, sometimes
in combination with Marks.
4. Gaining levels through normal play (you get practice sessions
as you progress through levels of experience).
5. Special Items, such as Orbs of Vandemaar, have the ability
to give practice sessions. Seek them out all over the world;
they turn up in the most unlikely of places.
6. Global Quests that occur several times a year, usually around
major holidays in the real world.
... and several more!
