PLAYING SONGS
[1612 ] PLAYING SONGS
NAME
play - allows the bard to produce magical effects through music
SYNOPSIS
play <notes>
Example: play A G C D#
DESCRIPTION
This skill is what the bard class is based upon. Using ancient
techniques, an experienced bard can weave a magical song which
can have a multitude of effects, and can affect all who hear it.
Bards can play up to 21 different musical notes, A B C D E F G,
A# B# C# D# E# F# G# (sharp notes) and Ab Bb Cb Eb Fb Gb (flat
notes). A Bard will play a sequence of these notes, up to 7 notes
long, to compose each different 'song'. While the musical notation
may appear similar to that used in the real world, it actually
expresses some notes and sounds which do not exist except in the
Materia Magica universe.
Each note has 7 'weights', depending on in which order out of the
seven maximum notes they are played. The main notes - A B C D E F G
- have greater weight than sharps and flats.
Different notes can be used to achieve the same effects - the
vibratory effect of the music is the same in these cases.
A listing of the most common songs follow. Additional songs can
be discovered and played if the Bard has a powerful enough musical
instrument.
