OPENING, CLOSING, LOCKING, and UNLOCKING DOORS and CONTAINERS
NAME
open - open a door or container
close - close a door or container
lock - lock a door or container
unlock - unlock a door or container
SYNOPSIS
open <direction, door name, or container name>
close <direction, door name, or container name>
lock <direction, door name, or container name>
unlock <direction, door name, or container name>
DESCRIPTION
These commands allow you to manipulate doors and containers.
If you don't know the name of a particular exit, you may use
the name of the exit direction instead. For instance, 'OPEN EAST'
will open the east exit if it is closed and unlocked.
If you have an item in your inventory with a keyword that
is similar to a direction, you may specifically indicate an
exit by adding the "door" keyword to the command, e.g.,
LOCK EAST DOOR.
When attempting to lock or unlock a door, you must have the
proper key. If the door is missing its key and it is not
magically enforced, the lock can be picked by a character
with the 'lock picking' skill.
Some doors may be magically locked. Such doors can only be
unlocked with a 'magic unlock' or 'knock' spell, or by
waiting for the spell to wear off.
