name - description of guidelines and rules for player names
DESCRIPTION
Materia Magica requests that our new players have names that
fit into the medieval theme of the game. We require all names
to be names that fit into our world of fantasy and not ones that
remind us of our real world existence.
If you are asked to change your name by an Immortal, verify
that the name you wish is available and inform the Immortal
as soon as possible. Failure to do this can be seen as outright
defiance, which can result in deletion.
There are a few players who have names that would not be permitted
with the current naming rules. These are special exceptions -
old players who have been around long before the rules were
put into place. New exceptions are not allowed, so please do
not ask for one.
The rules to be observed when selecting a name for your character
are as follows:
No obscene words may be used for or within your name.
The name may not be sexually suggestive.
Names intended to be insulting to another player are not
permitted.
No 'nonsense' names will be accepted. (ie. jjj, alkdfks
and so forth).
Ordinary words may not be used for your name. (ie. table,
devil etc.)
Creative spelling intended to try and get around any of the
above rules is not acceptable.
Here are some tips for choosing a name if you are having
trouble:
Look and see how other characters are named. (Reminder: some
of the characters DO have names that would not be approved
today).
Take the current name you are using and turn it into an
original medieval-feeling name - this can be done by
transposing letters, adding or removing vowels, etc.
If you have any doubt as to whether or not your name will be
acceptable, please ask an Immortal.
