MEASUREMENT and ENCUMBRANCE
NAME
measurement - describes of the measurement system in Alyria
DESCRIPTION
Alyrian measurements are based on the following scale:
WEIGHT - pebble (base - equal to roughly 1/10 of a pound)
stone (1 stone = 100 pebbles = 10 pounds)
LENGTH - inch (base)
foot (1 foot = 12 inches)
yard (1 yard = 3 feet)
rod (1 rod = 5.5 yards)
furlong (1 furlong = 40 rods)
If you are carrying 85% or more of your total allowed weight, you will
become 'encumbered'. This will show up in your SCORE and INVENTORY output.
What this means is that you may move slower than normal until you lighten
your load.
Heavy weapons will deal innately more damage than lighter equivalents;
weapons 1 stone or more correlates to 3% more damage; 1.5 stone correlates to
4% more damage, 2 stone correlates to 5% more damage, and 2.75 stone
correlates to 6% more damage. These bonuses are double for ogres.
The overloaded player may also suffer certain penalties when trying to cross
certain more difficult types of terrain, or scaling vertical surfaces.
There are three different sizes for the player races; robust (average of 6'
to 7'1" tall), medium (average of 4'9" to 5'8" tall) and stout (average of
3'11" to 4'8" tall).
Halflings average 3'11" tall and weigh about 8 stone.
Gnomes average 4'2" tall and weigh about 9 and a half stone.
Dwarves average 4'6" tall and weigh about 15 and a half stone.
The fey average 4'8" tall and weigh about 10 stone.
Elves average 4'8" tall and weigh about 12 stone.
Drow average 4'9" tall and weigh about 11 stone.
Dracons average 5' tall and weigh about 20 stone.
Half-elves average 5'2" tall and weigh about 14 stone.
Humans average 5'8" tall and weigh about 18 stone.
Sidhes average 6' tall and weigh about 12 stone.
Minotaurs average 6'10" tall and weigh about 25 stone.
Ogres average 7'1 tall and weigh about 45 stone.
