NAME
history - displays recent command and channel history
SYNOPSIS
history list
history list <start offset>
history list <history type>
history list <history type> <start offset>
history dump <history type>
history dump <history type> <start offset>
history search [<history type>] <search string> [<start offset>]
history clear [<history type>] [<start offset>]
DESCRIPTION
The HISTORY command displays recent channel and command history
for your character. It records channels that are available to your
character at the time - you have to be connected in order
to have those channels recorded. Additionally, it will record
most commands you issue.
The types of history entries are:
shout yell dream tell chat
archontalk pktalk emote formtalk clantalk
alliancetalk pray religion announcement command
History Listing
History entries may be displayed using HISTORY or HISTORY LIST.
Entries that were added by you will have their dates show up in
green, whereas entries from other characters will have their dates
show up in dark gray.
If you wish to restrict the results to a specific history type,
you may do so via HISTORY LIST <history type>, such as
HISTORY LIST TELL.
Command history is not shown by default in HISTORY LIST. You must
specify it via HISTORY LIST COMMAND.
If you wish to specify a specific offset, you may do so by
specifying a history type, the history record you wish to
view, and the number of matching history entries that should
be skipped over before displaying history entries.
Example: HISTORY LIST PKTALK 100 would list PKTALK history
entries to you, only after the 100th entry. You can also
offset the listing of all history entries by using something
like HISTORY LIST 100.
To display a list of history items without seeing other information
and formatting (for instance, the item number, channel, or date stamp),
use the HISTORY DUMP command. HISTORY DUMP accepts the same arguments
as HISTORY LIST.
History Searching
To search for specific text within a history entry, or for
history from a specific player name (if visible to you at the time
the history was recorded), use HISTORY SEARCH <search string>.
Strings must be from 3 to 40 characters in length, and can include
wildcards:
* Matches everything (e.g., *hello*)
? Matches a single character (e.g., he?lo)
% Matches a single word (e.g., hello there %)
You can additionally specify an offset for a history search as
well, e.g. HISTORY SEARCH *hello* 100 will skip over the first
100 matching entries and start displaying the 101st and above.
Specifying an additional history type can also help narrow your
search, as in HISTORY SEARCH pktalk *hello*.
History Clearing
To clear your history buffer, use the HISTORY CLEAR command. You
may optionally specify a history type to clear, and/or a history
offset from which to start, e.g., HISTORY CLEAR 200 would clear all
history entries from 201 and up (if any), while HISTORY CLEAR
tell 200 would clear all "tell" history entries after the 200th
"tell" history entry.
QUITting and logging out will automatically clear your character's
history buffer.
HISTORY LIMITS
There cannot be more than 1,000 history entries on your character
at once (with up to 500 viewable at one time). When the limit
is reached, the oldest entry is removed to make room for the
new entry. History entries older than fifteen hours are routinely
removed as well.
Command history is separate from regular channel history, and has
a separate limit of 1,000 history entries, with the same rotating
behavior.
