handfasting - information on handfasting oneself to a partner

DESCRIPTION
In the world of Alyria, it is not uncommon to find that the winds of love
have blown together two unsuspecting individuals. In situations like this,
these people generally find that they wish to affirm their feelings
officially and be married. However, before two people can marry according to
Alyrian law, they must first become handfasted. Handfastings are a sort of
formal engagement period intended to give the prospective couple time to get
to know one another more before heading down the aisle together.

Participating in a handfasting ceremony is a simple matter. Each couple must
purchase a handfasting voucher at the cost of 500,000 gp. These are available
in the Chapels of Love found in Sigil, Rune, and Templeton. Once the voucher
is purchased, both people must HOLD and USE it in order to affix their
signatures. By signing the document, each person agrees to be bound by the
terms outlined in HELP HANDFASTING.

After the voucher is purchased and "signed", the happy couple may deliver
their voucher back to the wedding cleric and give it to him. Upon receipt of
the completed voucher, the wedding cleric shall declare the couple handfasted
and give each partner a silver torque ring to symbolize their commitment to
one another.

Some things of note:
- You must be at least level 60 to handfast and/or marry.
- You must wait 30 days from the dissolution of one handfasting (or the
   finalization of a divorce) before handfasting again.
- Simultaneous marriages to multiple partners and/or marriages of
   convenience are not permitted.
- Same sex partnerships are permitted, but must be approved prior to
   participating in a handfasting ceremony.

If either partner wishes to dissolve the handfasting at any time, this may be
done by giving the silver torque ring back to one of the wedding clerics.
