arcane shield - absorbs a limited amount of combat damage from lesser beings

SYNOPSIS

DESCRIPTION
This spell manifests as a shield of pure knowledge, hewn from pure magic from
the Chaos Plane. The shield casts not at the level of its caster, but at the
level of (caster's knowledge * caster's wisdom / 4). Whenever the caster would
take damage from an opponent's weapon or hand-to-hand attacks, the shield
absorbs damage, dropping in level at a rate of 10 damage per level. The shield
only takes effect against opponent with a lower total (knowledge + wisdom)
than the shield's caster.
