This seems to be a sextant, although unlike any that you've seen before. 
It has far too many mirrors, and they jut out at strange angles, making
simple tasks overly complex.  What looks like two eyeholes would allow for
better accuracy, and a grip at the bottom makes it easy to hold without
snapping anything off.  The more you look at it, the more it seems like an
improved version of existing sextants.  With such an instrument, one could
travel to farther places faster, and with greater accuracy.  What a find!
