This is a large hollow bone of some exotic fish.  It has the rather
curious property of pointing to magnetic north when set afloat in any
suitable liquid.  The bone has a slight curve that terminates in a sharp
point on both ends.  It was most likely used by the fish to travel great
distances when returning to its spawning grounds.  This calcified wonder
would be invaluable to seaman and explorer alike.
